It’s only natural then that putting togetherour tenth anniversary issue was a delightful experience for me. Especially since I’ve workedwithbetter Interiorssince its very first issue. For the past month and a half whilstgathering stories, talking to architects, designers and public relation professionals… andafter hearing many a “wow, 10 years already!” quip it finally did dawn on me that we havecertainly come a long way. With over a hundred issues, dear readers we are committed tobringing you amazing interior design and architecture, beautiful products, fun decor ideas, gyaanfrom the design gurus and more. Even as a team, though many members have flownin and out of the BI-nest; the love and the enthusiasm for the magazine, its well-being, andachievements and most importantly the easy camaraderie and closeness with the peoplewho made it happen, continues… as I am sure it will go on. I’ll knock on wood for that one.It so happens that our theme for the tenth anniversary issue came quite naturally to ourteam. While I was reminiscing about the good ole days and the strong and individualisteditorial members, a realization dawned that we have all been women. It’s only fair then wedecide to honour ten up and coming mavens and future doyennes of the design industry. We are proud to present five fantastic designers and entrepreneurs in ourDesign Bytessection, each one with a unique talent and unusual skill-set. There is artist and sculptorGayathri Sekhri who quit a high-profile law practice to pursue her dreams. Then there’sthe talented Dakshyani Gowda who works with rural women to create contemporaryIndian products. Chetana Sharma’s graphic design journey has indeed been an interestingone, her love for the arts is reflected in the quirky work she churns out. Meet furnituredesigner Aakriti Kumar at her studio where she creates stunning masterpieces out ofnatural products. A special treat is product designer Valerie Barkowski whose everydayinspirations for brand No-Mad are bound to thrill everyone. It’s homes all the way inCentre Stage…each one with a different ethos, each individualisticand each celebrating their owners’ personality and reflecting the talent of its creators. Ourcover story is a Mumbai home crafted by architect Lara de Rooij; where fluid spacesmaintain a sense of wonder in a sun-filled apartment. There is another Mumbai home, thisone designed by architect Amee Vora where fine detailing, a plethora of finishes andintense styling create a smashing modern apartment. Head straight to Bangalore to meettwo talented teams, Khora and Ink Architecture. While the former celebrates India Modernby giving a new lease of life to a 20-year-old bungalow with light, greenery and grandeur;the latter creates a studio home on the terrace of a service apartment. Lastly, a bungalowin the Capital designed by Chrysalis Design Studio features light and art in all its glory. So that’s our treat for you. Go on, turn pages with as much pleasure as we experiencedcreating this issue… while I happily reminiscence our journey so far and work on our next ideas.Deepa NairEditorEditorialeditor’s pickRoche Bobois’ new collection of cushions designed by the iconic fashion designer Jean PaulGautier is totally WOW.
